Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) and Salik Company PJSC, Dubai’s exclusive toll gate operator, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop smart mobility solutions across DIEZ’s free zones, supporting the emirate’s broader vision for intelligent and connected urban infrastructure.
The partnership will introduce smart access control systems and parking optimization technologies across more than 21,000 parking spaces located within Dubai Airport Freezone, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Dubai CommerCity.
According to the two organizations, the initiative is designed to improve traffic flow, enhance operational efficiency, and deliver a more seamless mobility experience for businesses and visitors operating within the economic zones.
Smart Infrastructure for Dubai’s Free Zones
Under the agreement, DIEZ and Salik will explore technical integration between their respective digital systems and mobility platforms to enable smarter traffic management and operational coordination across the authority’s free zones.
Eng. Muammar Al Katheeri, Chief Officer of Engineering and Sustainability at DIEZ, said the collaboration reflects the authority’s ongoing commitment to adopting advanced digital technologies.
“Our collaboration with Salik reflects DIEZ’s ongoing commitment to adopting advanced digital solutions and forging strategic partnerships that contribute to delivering more efficient and seamless services for businesses operating within our economic zones,” Al Katheeri said.
Salik Expands Beyond Toll Operations
The agreement also marks Salik’s expansion into a new smart mobility business segment as the company broadens its role beyond electronic toll collection.
Ibrahim Sultan Al Haddad, Chief Executive Officer of Salik, said the initiative creates new opportunities to improve mobility across Dubai’s commercial districts.
“Through our collaboration with DIEZ, we aim to unlock new opportunities that support smoother vehicle movement and improve efficiency across free zones,” Al Haddad said.
“This initiative also marks the launch of a new smart mobility vertical for Salik, reinforcing our contribution to Dubai’s vision for intelligent, connected infrastructure.”
Supporting Dubai’s Smart City Vision
The collaboration aligns with Dubai’s ongoing investment in smart city technologies and digital infrastructure, with a focus on improving mobility, reducing congestion, and enhancing operational efficiency across key business districts.
By integrating digital access management with intelligent parking solutions, the partners aim to create a more connected mobility ecosystem capable of supporting the growing number of businesses operating within Dubai’s free zones.
Why It Matters
As Dubai continues expanding its digital infrastructure, mobility is becoming a key pillar of the city’s smart economy strategy. For Salik, the agreement represents a strategic move beyond toll collection into broader mobility technology services, while for DIEZ it supports the creation of more efficient, digitally enabled business environments that enhance the competitiveness of Dubai’s economic zones.
