Turkcell CEO Dr. Ali Taha Koç has been appointed Chair of the GSMA Technology Group, one of the mobile industry’s key strategic platforms responsible for shaping technology standards, network evolution and global collaboration across the telecommunications sector.
The appointment places a Turkish executive at the helm of a group that brings together more than 1,000 operators and companies worldwide under the umbrella of the GSMA, the global association representing the mobile communications industry.
Dr. Koç, who also serves as a member of the GSMA Board, will chair the Technology Group meetings scheduled to take place in New Delhi, India, on October 5, 2026.

The GSMA Technology Group supports the organization’s Board of Directors by contributing to areas including product and technology architecture, network evolution, expansion of industry partnerships, global standards development and the coordination of technical working groups.
Dr. Koç’s appointment further strengthens Turkcell’s global representation following the company’s position on the GSMA Board and elevates its role within international discussions surrounding the future of telecommunications technologies.

As part of his new responsibilities, Dr. Koç will chair the GSMA Technology Group meetings in New Delhi, where participants are expected to discuss the mobile industry’s technology roadmap, secure and sustainable digital infrastructure, areas for collaboration among operators and initiatives aimed at strengthening interoperability across global networks.
Driving standards from cybersecurity to 6G readiness
The GSMA Technology Group plays a central role in establishing industry standards in areas such as next-generation network architectures, network slicing and cloud-native technologies. The group also oversees standardization initiatives covering cybersecurity, user consent management, critical emergency calling services and global network certification processes.
