3 Min Read

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) and Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) have launched the DET Connect Account through the SME in a Box platform, providing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with streamlined digital banking services as part of Dubai’s broader entrepreneurship ecosystem.

The initiative combines ADIB’s banking capabilities with DET’s SME in a Box platform, enabling entrepreneurs to access a range of essential business services through a single digital gateway.

Simplifying Banking for New Businesses

According to DET, SME in a Box provides entrepreneurs with access to multiple business services, including company licensing, banking, digital payment solutions, logistics, telecommunications, and operational support through a network of participating service providers.

The newly introduced DET Connect Account is designed to simplify business banking by offering a zero-balance account alongside fee waivers during the first six months of operation.

Businesses can complete the account opening process entirely online, with ADIB expecting new accounts to be activated within one business day.

Integrated Financial Services

Beyond day-to-day banking, the DET Connect Account provides SMEs with access to personal and business banking services, point-of-sale (POS) solutions, trade finance products, and foreign exchange services.

The integrated offering is intended to reduce administrative complexity for entrepreneurs while supporting businesses throughout different stages of growth.

Supporting the UAE’s SME Economy

According to ADIB, the partnership forms part of the bank’s strategy to expand fully digital banking experiences for SMEs through integrated financial solutions and streamlined customer journeys.

The bank noted that SMEs represent approximately 94% of all businesses in the UAE and contribute around 53% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), underscoring their importance to the national economy.

The initiative also supports the UAE’s broader objective of increasing the number of businesses operating in the country while helping high-potential companies access the financial services needed to scale.

Strengthening Dubai’s Entrepreneurial Ecosystem

By integrating banking with licensing and other essential business services on a single platform, the collaboration aims to reduce barriers for entrepreneurs launching and operating businesses in Dubai.

The launch reflects a growing trend toward digital public-private partnerships that combine government services with private-sector financial solutions to improve the ease of doing business across the UAE.

Why It Matters

Small and medium-sized enterprises are the backbone of the UAE economy, and simplifying access to banking remains a key priority for business formation and growth. By integrating digital banking into Dubai’s SME in a Box platform, ADIB and DET are creating a more seamless entrepreneurial experience that supports business creation, financial inclusion, and the emirate’s ambition to become one of the world’s most business-friendly destinations.
