Dubai’s transition toward electric mobility continues to gather pace, with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announcing that its Green Charger Initiative has supplied more than 62,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity since its launch in 2014.
According to DEWA, the charging network has supported more than 310 million kilometers of electric vehicle travel while expanding to 2,223 charging stations across Dubai. The initiative now serves approximately 23,600 registered users, reflecting the growing adoption of electric vehicles throughout the emirate.
Charging Infrastructure Continues to Expand
The Green Charger network includes a mix of ultra-fast chargers, fast chargers, public charging points and wall-box installations distributed across Dubai. Many of the fast-charging stations are located at petrol stations, helping drivers integrate electric vehicle charging into existing travel routines.
DEWA’s charging stations operate around the clock and can be accessed through the authority’s digital platforms, including its website and mobile application, providing drivers with real-time access to charging locations.
Supporting Dubai’s Net Zero Ambitions
The Green Charger Initiative forms part of Dubai’s wider strategy to accelerate the transition toward low-carbon transportation while supporting the emirate’s long-term sustainability objectives.
According to DEWA, the initiative aligns with several national and local strategies, including the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030, the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, and the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative.
Electric Mobility Gains Momentum
The continued expansion of charging infrastructure plays an essential role in encouraging electric vehicle adoption by reducing charging accessibility concerns for both private drivers and commercial fleet operators. As more public charging points become available, cities can support a broader transition away from conventional internal combustion vehicles.
Dubai has steadily invested in smart infrastructure to support its sustainability agenda, combining renewable energy initiatives, digital services and transportation projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions while improving urban mobility.
