The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) has launched SME in a Box, a new platform designed to simplify the process of establishing and operating businesses by bringing together key business services through a single digital entry point.
The initiative aims to reduce complexity during business formation by giving entrepreneurs streamlined access to licensing support, banking, digital payments, logistics, telecommunications and other operational services through an integrated network of private-sector partners.
One Platform for Essential Business Services
Rather than requiring founders to negotiate separately with multiple service providers, SME in a Box consolidates access to a broad range of business solutions in one platform. According to DET, the system is intended to improve transparency, accelerate company setup and reduce operational costs for startups and small businesses.
The platform launches with 18 private-sector partners, including financial institutions, payment providers, logistics companies and digital service providers supporting entrepreneurs throughout the early stages of business development.
Potential Cost and Time Savings
DET estimates that businesses using the platform could receive more than AED80,000 in potential value through discounted transaction rates, fee waivers, subsidized onboarding, lower service charges and partner offers, depending on the services selected.
Entrepreneurs adopting integrated banking and payment solutions may also save up to 200 hours typically spent identifying providers, comparing commercial offers and completing onboarding procedures.
Faster Access to Core Business Operations
Several services, including payment solutions, logistics and telecommunications, can be activated within 24 hours, while services such as corporate banking and licensing approvals will continue to follow existing regulatory processes with coordinated onboarding designed to reduce delays.
Emirati-owned SMEs participating in the initiative will also receive additional preferential offers and enhanced onboarding support aimed at encouraging local entrepreneurship.
Supporting Dubai’s Entrepreneurial Ecosystem
DET plans to roll out SME in a Box in multiple phases, initially focusing on core business enablement services before expanding to include deeper digital integration and automated onboarding capabilities.
Future development will also see the platform integrated with Invest in Dubai and Dubai Founders HQ under the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, creating a connected ecosystem that supports entrepreneurs from company formation through business growth and expansion.
Why It Matters
Reducing administrative complexity has become an important priority for governments seeking to encourage entrepreneurship and attract new businesses. By bringing together licensing, financial services and operational support within a single platform, SME in a Box aims to simplify business formation while lowering costs and accelerating market entry. The initiative also strengthens Dubai’s broader strategy of building a business-friendly environment that supports startups, SMEs and innovation as key drivers of long-term economic growth.
