Dubai Future Foundation Unveils 50 Emerging Opportunities Shaping the Future of Global Economies

Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) has released the fifth edition of its annual Future Opportunities: The Global 50 report, identifying 50 emerging opportunities that could redefine economies, industries, and societies in the years ahead.

The report serves as a strategic guide for governments, businesses, investors, and innovators by examining technologies and trends across artificial intelligence, robotics, healthcare, energy, mobility, space, edge computing, and other rapidly evolving sectors.

Compiled through research and roundtable discussions involving more than 180 experts from the UAE and around the world, the publication is built around five long-term assumptions: climate change will continue, inequalities will persist, people will live longer and healthier lives, global interdependence will remain, and technological progress will continue to accelerate.

A Blueprint for Long-Term Innovation

According to Dubai Future Foundation, the report moves beyond forecasting by exploring how emerging ideas can be translated into real-world implementation through investment, financing, collaboration, and the development of enabling innovation ecosystems.

H.E. Mohammad Al Gergawi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Managing Director of Dubai Future Foundation and Chairman of the Museum of the Future, said every future opportunity represents a chance to shape a better tomorrow.

“Every future opportunity is an invitation to think differently, act with courage, and believe in the possibility of a better tomorrow,” Al Gergawi said.

He added that the UAE has demonstrated how bold decision-making can transform challenges into opportunities for sustainable growth.

“The UAE’s experience has shown that transformative change begins with bold decisions; decisions that do not simply respond to the present, but redefine what is possible for the future. This is the mindset our institutions, cities, and societies need today.”

Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Take Center Stage

The report identifies artificial intelligence-powered robotics as one of the sectors with the greatest transformational potential. According to DFF, affordable and scalable robotic platforms could help address global challenges while supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The AI robotics market is projected to expand by approximately 280% by 2030, driven by advances in machine learning, automation, and intelligent systems.

Future Energy Technologies

Among the energy innovations highlighted are space-based solar power systems capable of generating renewable energy continuously in orbit before transmitting electricity back to Earth.

The report also explores advances in superconducting materials that could dramatically reduce transmission losses within electricity networks.

DFF projects that clean energy sources will account for 55% of global electricity generation by 2035.

Healthcare, Water and Biotechnology

The report outlines emerging healthcare innovations including smart fabrics incorporating nanobiomaterials and synthetic materials capable of delivering essential daily vitamins directly to the body.

It also highlights the largely untapped potential of marine biodiversity for biotechnology and pharmaceutical research, noting that 75% of newly emerging infectious diseases originate in regions experiencing severe biodiversity disruption.

Another opportunity identified is the use of carbon-based nanomaterials to improve water purification through more efficient pollutant filtration technologies. The report notes that approximately 2.1 billion people worldwide still lack access to safe drinking water.

Mobility, Space and Quantum Technologies

The Global 50 report also examines future mobility innovations, including magnetic levitation transportation systems, drone-inspired vehicle technologies, and alternatives to conventional rubber tires designed to reduce energy consumption and emissions.

In the space sector, DFF highlights opportunities for satellites and artificial intelligence to expand access to high-speed internet connectivity while supporting the continued growth of the Internet of Things. The global space economy is projected to reach US$1.8 trillion by 2035.

The report also points to advances in quantum technologies that could reshape communications, encryption, and next-generation computing.

Edge Computing and the Connected Economy

Edge computing features prominently as organizations increasingly process data closer to its source, reducing latency and improving the performance of artificial intelligence, machine learning, augmented reality, and connected devices.

DFF projects that the number of Internet of Things devices could reach 50 billion by 2035, while the global semiconductor market could grow to US$1 trillion by 2030.

Additional opportunities explored include self-repairing machines, personalized bioprinted organs, contactless haptic technologies, collective intelligence, and the tokenization of intellectual property rights.

The report also notes that the world’s population is expected to reach 10.3 billion within the next six decades, increasing demand for scalable solutions across energy, food, water, healthcare, infrastructure, and advanced technologies.
